FELL RACE, WINTER WALK & WINTER LECTURE
Nov 6 all-day

FELL RACE & Winter Walk – Sun 6th November 2022
The Mynydd Annual fell race and winter walk will take place next Sunday 6th.
Meet at the public Sett Valley Trail car park (Hayfield, SK22 2JG – SK036869).
Walkers will set off for 10:00 a.m. with runners heading out slightly staggered around 10:30a.m. to give you all a bit of a solitude. To make things interesting the route cards you’ll be given on the day will be slightly different so even if you do see someone one the hill I wouldn’t follow them! Is that runner ahead of me actually ahead of me or are they behind me!?!?
Don’t be resting on the laurels if you think you’re in front, there’s a good chance you’re last!
They’ll be various checkpoints you have to hit en-route to get your route card punched and these won’t always be obvious so you may have to have a hunt them out!
They’ll be options from 10km right up to 18km with chances to take short cuts. It’s all depends on each person’s tenacity and how many checkpoints they want to hit!
The winner might not necessarily be the quickest!
The race will finish at the Royal Hotel and there’s plenty of places to grab something to eat near by before you stagger back to your car at the end of the Sett Valley Trail. If your legs are really shot you can always just fester in your own filth and wait for our fantastic first winter lecture organised by Alice which will kick off at the Royal for 7:00p.m.
If your intending to run then please comment below so I know to expect you!
Apologies for the late notice on this one but it’s Fell (badum tish) to me to arrange things!

LOGGING MEET @ BYN
Nov 11 – Nov 13 all-day

LOGGING / BONFIRE MEET
FRI 11TH NOV – SUN 13TH NOV

Do you like burning stuff?? Swinging Axes??
Then we have the perfect meet for you!
Once again we descend on our beloved Blaen-Y-Nant to chop wood and burn stuff with a healthy dose of explosions thrown in for good measure!
Can we go another year accident free? Will Jules bring a stringer axe this year? What has Jack ‘s imagination been plotting for the grand lighting??

Similar format as with most years with Saturday spent chopping, sawing, stacking wood in glorious sunshine. Did someone say Indian summer?
Hard graft will be rewarded by a hearty meal and as much beer & wine as you can stomach (bring your own drinks…). The day will wrap up with a tremendous firework display worthy of sending someone off to Valhalla.
This is usually a busy meet so space on bunks will be limited (and first come, first served) so it’s worthwhile bringing a tent (fabric or tin variety) if you want your own space.
Sundays we’ll get out for some adventures so bring your gear with you.

IF YOU’ ARE COMING PLEASE COMMENT BELOW OR EMAIL ME AT MEETS.MYNYDD@GMAIL.COM SAYING IF YOU’LL BE STAYING IN THE HUT OR IN TENT/VAN AND IF YOU WANT MEAT OR VEG FOR THE EVENING MEAL.

There is usually a modest charge to help cover the cost of communal food and the fireworks. Bring some cash with you for this please but it’s usually about £10.

Hut fee’s as usual can be sent to James with a reference of “BURN your name”. This will enable him to keep tabs on whose paid whilst making the bank statement look like a list of witches to be dealt with.
£6.00 pppn for members (£4.00 kids) and £12.00 pppn for non-members (£6.00 kids)

WINTER WALK
Dec 4 all-day

Sue’s Winter Walk – Sunday 4 December
Bearing in mind we need to be at the AGM well before 16.30, I’ve found us a local walk.

Cown Edge and Whitely Nab from Chunal is 6.5 miles with 350 m of ascent. It’ll probably be boggy but hopefully clear so we can get some good views. Meet at 10 for 10.30 at the car park on A624 between Hayfield and Glossop (034907).
In addition to butties, I will be bringing dry and mud free spare clothes so I can go straight from the walk to the AGM, have dinner and listen to the fantastic talk.
See you all there.

XMAS CURRY WEEKEND – 9 & 10 DECEMBER
HILL TOP BUNKHOUSE, MALHAM

There are still a few places left on our favourite early December meet.
We are returning to the excellent Hill Top Bunkhouse in Malham. After a great day walking, riding or chilly climbing, we will put on our Xmas party hats and tuck into a takeaway curry from the highly rated Bollywood Cottage.

The accommodation will cost £38 pp for the weekend, including a free extra Sunday night extension. Please transfer the money to the Mynydd account with Malham as your reference and message me to say you are coming. I will set up a separate Whats App group to organise the food booking and payment (likely to be £18pp). Please note that only two dogs are allowed and both those places are taken.
Looking forward to it as ever. Sue

NEW YEARS WALK
Jan 2 all-day
If like me you intend to spend the next two weeks eating your weight in cheese, and come New Year you might be in need off a little leg stretch, then please join me on the 2nd to welcome in the New Year with a walk along Derwent Edge.

The plan is to meet in Fairholmes car park for a 10am start (I’ll aim to be there from 9.45 near the coffee kiosk). Bring some lunch, beer money, and parking pennies (unless you get in one of the nearby laybys instead of Fairholme). Approx 15km route.

Comment below or drop me a message if you plan to join.

My contact details are on the forum.

SEATHWAITE HUT MEET @ High House
Jan 12 – Jan 15 all-day

Thursday 12th Jan – Sun 15th Jan 2023

After last year’s Covid induced mass exodus, hopefully this year will be a little plainer sailing! We’re staying at the K Fellfarers ‘High House’ hut in Seathwaite – to find it simply stick ‘High House – Club Hut’ into your newfangled interweb widget or locate NY235119 if you’re in the old skool posse.

Pillows and tea towels aren’t provided so bring both. Dogs (or pets in general – maybe bring a frog, or a bat…) are allowed in the common room but must sleep in your vehicle. I’ll send out some more information to attendees nearer the time and see if there’s any appetite for a communal cook-up or such.

There’s lots of great walking straight from the hut and if winter conditions are favourable then climbing to be had up on Great Gable, Green Gable and Great End. Low level cragging in Borrowdale might be possible if there’s a settled spell and if the weather is totally minging then there are plenty of cafes in Keswick.

To book, simply pay £21.50 into the club account and send me an email (see members area) to let me know you’re coming. Remember that this is your hut payment, not a deposit, and a refund can only be guaranteed if you sell your spot!

WINTER BIVVY MEET – Sat 28th Jan

This meet will no longer be going ahead.
Graham stepped up to make sure the meet went ahead but with no on putting there hands up wanting to join in then unfortunately we’re pulling the plug.

‐–‐—————————————

Huge Kudos to Graham for stepping up on this one!!
Details from the main man himself are below with a healthy dose of flexibility! Plans will firm up depending on who and how many people are keen to join him! Please comment below and I’ll make sure the message get to him 🙂

How to sell shivering the night away in a damp sleeping bag?
Dan says can I put together a brief outline times Etc.
This all sounds like structured organisation itineraries venues most frightening of all times!
So let’s try Saturday night out on the hill Sunday morning beautiful and clear? be nice to do some climbing.
However if Saturday is a good day and Sunday wet, better to start early on Saturday current forecast is fair for both days.
I can make 1pm at Laddow on Saturday to climb and can stay the on Sunday,
If it was too wet for any climbing, Laddow is a good place to start a walk in four counties.
I will walk in from Greenfield, Chew. Crowden is shorter walk in both have parking
I am easy and will spend time climbing or take a longer rout from & to Greenfield
one positive of a Laddow bivvy is no lights in view [home moss tv mast] so a promise of the milkyway, or cloud or both. before the morning

WINTER LECTURE NO. 3

Film Screening & Q&A
The Last Forgotten Art
With Jessie Leong, Vicky Walsh & Steve Rayner

19.00 start

Is crack climbing the Last Forgotten Art? From hand-sized splitters, chicken wings to whole body wriggles, ‘The Last Forgotten Art’ follows crack aficionados Mel, Vicky and Steve in their pursuit of slightly more unusual ‘off-width climbs’ found in the Peak District. The film, which won the People’s Choice Award at Kendal Film Festival, places emphasis on a different style of climbing that requires a certain amount of creativity to climb them, focusing on the fringes of the climbing community drawn to all things wide at its heart.

AVIEMORE WINTER MEET, SYHA
Feb 18 – Feb 25 all-day

SCOTTISH WINTER MEET – 18th TO 25th FEBRUARY 2023

It’s Winter, apparently, and in 2023 we’ll be heading to the exotic polar resort of Aviemore for the annual Winter Meet.

The Cairngorms National Park will be the main attraction, but there is also the Monadhliath over the road with Creag Meagaidh and even Torridon within striking distance. Alas the Mountain Cafe and its epic queue is no more, but rumour has it they’ve now setup shop in Grantown.
Accommodation will be provided by the Aviemore YHA. There are 28 beds available in total, mainly in dorms. If you want a twin bedroom instead you’ll have to be very quick off the mark. A spreadsheet will be available shortly to track who has booked what.

* £160 pp for a bed in a twin room
* £130 pp for a dorm bed

There’s also some skiing apparently though quite why anyone would want to get involved with that nonsense…

WINTER WALK
Mar 5 all-day

Final winter Walk – Sunday 5th March. 9am for 9.30 please.

Will be a lovely 9 mile / 5-6 hour circuit from Edale, taking in Hollins Cross, Lose Hill, Hope Cross and Rowland Cote. It’s slightly easier than last months but some shorter options are available.
Last Sunday the main car park was full by 9.30 so we will meet at Edale main car park at 9am for a 9.30 start (yes, yes, I know . . . If I can manage it, anyone can). If it is already full the overflow car park just past the station car park will hopefully be open. Both need cash only.

At 7pm there is our final winter lecture at Hayfield – see Alice’s separate post. The good news is that due to our earlier walk start you’ll have plenty of time to get home, nap, shower and change before that.

SCRAMBLING MEET @ North Wales somewhere...
Mar 24 – Mar 26 all-day

Scrambling meet March 25-26

Unfortunately this meet will no longer be going ahead due to lack of attendance. With only one person putting up their hand it wasn’t viable for David to run the weekend.

This may have been due to people not being available or potentially just a meet people aren’t keen for. It’s a shame if it’s the latter as last years meet had a great attendance and was really successful!

That said rather than lose a weekend if there is enthusiasm to do something AND we have someone willing to organise it I’m happy to run with a different meet. Feel free to reach out to me if you have an idea you’re willing to run with, even if it’s a day meet.

Dan
