People who were around in the 60’s and 70’s will be sad to hear that former Mynydd member Doug Stansfield died very recently.
He was a warm-hearted man and good companion on the hill who was able to keep people amused with a wry sense of humour while also being able to ‘tell it like it was’ in discussion. He worked in construction and therefore was particularly appreciated during the early days of Blaen-y-Nant development.
Doug lost close contact with the club when he moved to Torlundy to work in Forestry. For many years following this however, the proximity of his lounge floor to the tracks leading up to the Ben, plus his key to the forest gates, made him an integral part of many forays north for winter climbing.
Our thoughts are with his wife Eileen, his two daughters and three brothers.
