World class climbing stars visit Chesterfield, telling their gripping stories of first ascents and new routes across Antartica, Europe and North America. The event will raise funds for Community Action Nepal.
Andy Kirkpatrick – speaking about first ascent on ‘The Wolf’s Tooth’ in Antarctica and perhaps his Sport Relief climb with the ONE SHOW’s Alex Jones! Andy, who has been described as “Making Ray Mears look like Paris Hilton”, is a captivating speaker with the quick wit of a stand up comedian.
Alex Huber (Germany) – speaking about his breathtaking solo free ascent on Cima Grande in the Dolomites, Europe. Reinhold Messner said of Huber’s climb: “500 meters of absolute exposure, without protection and possibility of return, a brilliant deed, which can hardly be surpassed in elegance”.
Michael Kennedy (USA) – speaking about his first ascents in North America on Alaska’s Mount Hunter and Mount Foraker . His climbing is driven by intuition and living fully in the moment, essential in Alaska, with its bitter temperatures and fierce storms.
Doug Scott CBE – one of the world’s greatest ever climbers and the first Briton to climb Everest, is your host for the evening.
