Mynydd Climbing Club

September often brings some excellent late summer conditions, with cool breezes, sun that doesn’t burn, and routes with a season’s worth of traffic! Why not join us for a civilized camping or tin tenting meet in the lovely Eskdale Valley.
Campsites: There are several: Fisher Ground, Dalegarth and the National Trust one in Boot. I’ll stay at Fisherground.
Pubs and amenities: The Eskdale valley is well endowed with four(!) pubs serving meals plus more toward Eskdale Green where there is also a basic shop.
Climbing: Should you be:
– Cool, stay low and local: the classic Eskdale granite could be in prime condition for plentiful bouldering and numerous gritstone style outcrops along the valley. See also the slightly esoteric but very impressive Gate & Heron Crags
– Warm, stretch your legs and head into the Scafell crags or Esk Buttress/River
– wanting mileage, head to the extensive amenable crags in the Wyrnose valley
– strong, head to the classy Hardknott Crag, or nip over into the Duddon for Burnt Crag
– bored, get on the Lal ratty and visit a castle with birds of prey.
