It seems that every year I seem to mix things up a little. Some things have worked and others not!
The online forums have now been running for over 3 years and these have been a fantastic resource for my organisation but most importantly it gives you as members the opportunity to put forward your thoughts and idea’s for the year ahead.

Although these have worked amazingly there’s always room to improve things a little. The one issue I’ve noticed over the years is that those early meets have never really fitted well into the forum. The January hut meet and winter meet are usually booked 18 months in advance meaning we never really get the wider memberships input on those.

I always include the Easter meet in the forum but as this is generally published in October, with a November deadline it’s then a bit of scramble to get a venue confirmed in time for the AGM in December. This then means we are restricting ourselves to those venues that can be arranged in time.
It’s my hope that with the pandemic behind us we will have an opportunity to venture for those European hotter crags so it’s important to give ourselves the time to make those arrangements.

So what’s going to change?
Going forward I will be publishing 3 forums instead of the previous 2. Don’t panic they’ll only take the length of a brew to complete. If anything the content will similar, just spread about a bit more.

Summer Forum
This will be published in June and will specifically look at the extended meets only. Easter, Whit and the Summer Meets for the following year. I’m not expecting to have everything pinned down off the back of this forum. It’s mainly an opportunity to gain your views and scope out potential meet organisers.
This will be slightly different in the sense it will be more of a blank slate to give you the chance to shape what we will do.
We will also talk about the January Hut meet & Winter meet for the year after. This will give us a chance to include members preferences when we are looking to book these venues in the autumn.

Tuesday Evening Forum
This will be published in September, when you are all still super stoked from a season’s great climbing. Once again this will form the backbone of the Tuesday evenings we plan for the following year.
I would estimate that over 90% of our Tuesday venues come directly from your suggestions. The only other venues I slot in are those popular favourites that you probably already assume will be put in the calendar.
Make sure you get your thoughts in!

Autumn Forum
This will be similar to what you are used to seeing. Published at the start of October you’ll have the chance to vote on those extended meets we’ve already identified in the summer forum. They’ll still be time to make new suggestions for these extended meets but any new suggestions will carry more weight if you put your hand up to help organise it!

You’ll also be voting and making suggestions on the weekend meets in the usual manner.
