A reminder that I will be confirming bunkhouse numbers towards the end of this month at The Laxdale Holiday Park (https://www.laxdaleholidaypark.com/) in Stornoway. Thanks to those that have already reserved their place in the bunkhouse.
We have provisionally reserved the bunkhouse for sole use by the club that sleeps 16 people (4 bedrooms of 4 bunks each). The campsite will hold this reservation until the end of this year when we will have to confirm how many of the beds we want – we will only have sole use of the bunkhouse if we fill all the available places.
If we don’t fill all the bunks by the end of the year the campsite will be taking bookings from outside the club. If you are still undecided you can still contact the campsite yourself in the New Year and arrange your own booking subject to availability.
The cost of staying in the bunkhouse is £140 for the week. If you decide to come you will need to pay the full amount (it would be £280 for two people etc) into the Mynydd’s bank account by BACS:
Sort code: 01-05-51 Account number: 40582787 Reference text: “Lewis”
Your booking will be secured once the full amount has been paid. Email the treasurer (treasurer.mynydd@gmail.com) and I (michael_tempest@sky.com) to confirm payment has been made.
For those not wishing to stay in the bunkhouse the following options are available and can be booked directly with Laxdale Holiday Park. Check their website for more information:
Campervans/Tin tents: From £23 pppn with electric hook-up (£18 without)
Camping: From £13 pppn
Bunkhouse is £140 for the week (£20pppn)
Ferries timetables and prices are available from the Caledonian Macbrayne website https://www.calmac.co.uk/ . Options are either Ullapool to Stornoway (very close to the campsite) or Uig (Skye) to Tarbert (Harris).

Due to overwhelming requests we’ll be back at Gogarth this September. Due to the less than favourable tide times the following weekend I’ve had to juggle this one in a week early.
It totally screws with my fortnightly meet agenda but what can you do? Blame the moon!

FELL RACE & Winter Walk – Sun 6th November 2022
The Mynydd Annual fell race and winter walk will take place next Sunday 6th.
Meet at the public Sett Valley Trail car park (Hayfield, SK22 2JG – SK036869).
Walkers will set off for 10:00 a.m. with runners heading out slightly staggered around 10:30a.m. to give you all a bit of a solitude. To make things interesting the route cards you’ll be given on the day will be slightly different so even if you do see someone one the hill I wouldn’t follow them! Is that runner ahead of me actually ahead of me or are they behind me!?!?
Don’t be resting on the laurels if you think you’re in front, there’s a good chance you’re last!
They’ll be various checkpoints you have to hit en-route to get your route card punched and these won’t always be obvious so you may have to have a hunt them out!
They’ll be options from 10km right up to 18km with chances to take short cuts. It’s all depends on each person’s tenacity and how many checkpoints they want to hit!
The winner might not necessarily be the quickest!
The race will finish at the Royal Hotel and there’s plenty of places to grab something to eat near by before you stagger back to your car at the end of the Sett Valley Trail. If your legs are really shot you can always just fester in your own filth and wait for our fantastic first winter lecture organised by Alice which will kick off at the Royal for 7:00p.m.
If your intending to run then please comment below so I know to expect you!
Apologies for the late notice on this one but it’s Fell (badum tish) to me to arrange things!
