Last year’s alternative challenge revealed a long held Peak District secret. You loved it; so I thought we’d do it again.
I can’t give you any details in advance, but this early Autumn Fun Day involves walking (or running), prowess at map reading, navigating and finding small items in strange places.
Most of you will want to arrive at the car park near Erwood Reservoir Dam (GR 013756) at 10.00 for a 10.30 start where you will receive your instructions. You will be able to manage your walk so it lasts between 4 and 12 miles depending on how energetic you feel. You should bring a 1:25,000 map, compass, pencil, piece of paper and your butties. The day will be most fun if you are in small groups of between 2 and 6 people. At about 4pm you will get fed up and retire to the Shady Oak, Fernilee for beer and chips.
Some of you, the very energetic ones, will want to extend the distance; up to 22 miles if you are very fit and very experienced. If you are interested in the ‘Full Round Adventure’, you’ll have to arrive with your running shoes early. I’ll be there from 9 am just in case.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
