You may recall that the actual New Year Walk was cancelled due to snow blocking the roads.
I hope lots of you come to the rescheduled event on Sunday 2 February as we blow away the post January blues. And, as extra encouragement, I’m still bringing port and Deborah Nugent Cowsill is bringing late birthday cake.
The delayed New Year Walk is Blackden Brook. It features a grade 1 scramble (which can be walked round) and an optional grade 3 version for people who like cold water, green slimy rock and dodgy moves.
After the scramble (or not), we will turn left and enjoy a lovely trek along Blackden Edge to Crookstone Barn before turning left again past Upper Ashton and contouring back to the start.
Its 7 miles with 500m of ascent (all at the start). You’ll be astonished to hear that I practiced most of the route (except the last mile as I want to retain the usual chaotic feel).
Park at SK130895 at 10 for 10.30. There were spaces on a Sunday morning in late December and the various nearby laybys were empty. However, you should share cars and arrive early to be sure of parking at the departure point.
Once again, I’m really looking forward to seeing you all (and I hope there’s enough port to go round!)
