Sun 3rd November | David Kirsfelds & Alice Appleyard
It’s time again to celebrate the peak of Mynydd athletic finesse, and pit one high calibre individual against another in a ferocious race to win a coveted engraving on the Fell Race trophy. However, please note that in the interest of inclusivity, penalties and bonus points will be awarded liberally to level even the most uneven of playing fields.
Walkers should meet at the public car park opposite Glossop Tennis Club (grid reference SK 044 943) at 10.30am for an 11.00am start. The walking route will be approximately 9 miles with 600m of ascent. It’ll go up Yellow Slacks and onto Bleaklow Head before turning south along the Pennine Way and back down Doctors Gate. The last time we did this, the advance ‘I know the way’ party got lost and arrived over an hour later than the ‘I’ll just check the map, it’s this way’ party. Can’t wait to see what the Mynydd do this time!
Runners please meet at the same location, but you get a lie in! Think of it as our gift to you. Get to the car park for 12.30pm for a 1.00pm start. Hopefully you’ll meet some of the walkers on your route and we’ll all get back for around the same time.
And if that wasn’t enough to tempt you to come along then there’ll be drinks, food and a winter lecture courtesy of Ian Nettleton afterwards at Distant Hills Brewery. Ian will be sharing “An Avalanche Odyssey”, as well as stories and photos from skiing trips to Georgia and Norway.
If you’re coming and want hotpot chilli at Distant Hills Brewery then please pay £12.50 into the club account and reply below with your dietry requirements (meat or veggie + anything else).
