    Glencoe Winter Meet

    Sat 17th – Sat 24th February 2024

Come to Glencoe and learn the art of suffering!

Glencoe is the home of Winter Climbing in Scotland, where local legend Hamish MacInnes invented the first technical ice axe, the “Terrordactyl”, so called as rumour has it he would wave it at terrified visiting mountain bikers who believed it to be an acceptable winter activity. Anyway, I digress…

In Glencoe you will find classic mountaineering objectives like Curved Ridge or the epic Aonach Eagach, multiple Munro summits or classic hard mixed test pieces like Central Grooves, Unicorn, and the Clachaig Table Traverse. Of course if conditions are fickle the more reliable venues of Ben Nevis and Aonoch Mor are only a short drive away, as are the lower lying ice climbs of Beinn Udlaidh if we are blessed with a cold snap.

We will be staying in the newly refurbished Heart of Glencoe Hostel (formerly the Glencoe Independent Hostel, now under new ownership), where we have 16 beds in the bunkhouse and an additional 8 split between two caravans. Each caravan has a double room and a twin so let me know via the usual channels if you specifically want to book the double room or a single in one of the caravans. Otherwise you will be allocated a spot in the bunkhouse.

£150 per person payable to the usual account, using the payment reference GLENCOE.

    From Andrew M.:

“Capacity for the Winter Meet has been reduced to 16 places and is now provisionally full pending a few confirmations. If there are any other inquiries I will ask at the hostel if we can increase capacity using the additional caravans we previously had booked but nothing is guaranteed.”
