As I sit here watching torrential rain pound against the windows, my thoughts turn to the next winter walk…

We’re heading for Dove Stones reservoir from where we will scramble up Birchen Clough, head across the hill (bog) to the Chew reservoir and return via Chew Road and the Oldham Way. Its 11 miles with options for shorter routes.

Meet at the official car park by the Sailing Club (SE 014034) at 10.00 for a 10.30 start. Bring butties and a tenner for drinks at the Clarence afterwards.

PS. Note that the car park fills up quickly so you should arrive early to guarantee a place. Alternatively you could head for the Binns Green car park (SE 016045) and we’ll pick you up as we walk along the reservoir edge
