I blame Paul Justin. He suggested we avoid parking problems by using the train. So after much cross referencing and fannying about with OS maps…..
Meet at Chinley Station ready to walk at 10.00. There is a train (probably) from New Mills Central at 09.25 (arrives at 09.45). There are also trains from Manchester and Sheffield. Or you can just park at Chinley Station (I understand this is free and there are 20 spaces).
The long walk (11 miles, 500m ascent) goes over South Head and Brown Knoll returning via Slackhall and Breckend. The shorter version (6 miles, 350m ascent) misses out Brown Knoll and returns via Shireoaks.
There are regular return trains to New Mills every hour.
Bring the usual butties and cash for the pub plus a sense of smugness for avoiding a parking crisis and thinking about your carbon emissions.
See you there
