Bird damage at Brackenclose
A prior warning about a particularly anti-social crow; although I was at Brackenclose over Easter and there were no issues with crow behaviour then, despite a fairly full hut. However, Andy and I did see it in action on the hut window frames a few years ago.
The below was recently sent out (to FRCC members) by the hut warden:
For some time now we have had a persistent problem with a solitary crow that has been damaging hut window frames and mastic by vigorous pecking. The crow has in the past also shown occasional interest in the wipers and window seals of vehicles. However very recently its habits have changed and it has been causing significant damage to the paintwork of some cars parked at the hut by perching on wing mirrors, bonnets, roofs and wings of vehicles.
Members/guests are advised that if they are at all concerned by this they should bring a groundsheet, tarpaulin or car cover they can drape over their vehicle while it is parked at the hut. Parking closer to the hut may reduce the bird’s interest in a vehicle but this is no guarantee. Please park considerately if doing so. I am looking into what can be done to prevent this in the future. Advice or suggestions from members is welcomed.
Cars are parked at own risk and FRCC is unable to take any responsibility for damage of this type.
