Rachael SpraggsParticipant
Booked 29th May – 6th June.
For John and I. Hoping to get Max looked after unless Mel wants to take him on lots of nice walks with Woody???
RachRachael SpraggsParticipantOk got all of you folk. will be passing preliminary numbers on to the campsite today.
I will periodically check for additional people though.
Shaping up to be a good meet – 20 people, 6 vans and at least 3 dogs 🙂
Thanks
RachRachael SpraggsParticipantNorth Wales Camping Meet 20th-22nd March
I have taken over organising this meet and have been in touch with the campsite. We will be in the top field as the bottom one is water logged. Because of this they want an indication of numbers next week.So please post below if you intend to come as they will reserve places for us.
Rachael SpraggsParticipantSo the campsite would like names prior to us turning up – so far I have:
me, John, Mark P, David K, Abi, Stephanie, Nicola, David R, Daniel as coming and a bunch of maybes.
If you are going to come (the weather is looking good!), please can you let me know by either posting here, messaging me or changing your status on the facebook event that would be good so that I can add you to the booking form.
It’s not a disaster if anyone decides last minute but I’d like to keep the campsite as happy as possible as they have a £300 deposit from Richard and he will chase me down if we lose it!
Rachael SpraggsParticipantCamping meet this weekend (20th April), please pay on arrival and tell the campsite you are part of the Mynydd group then they will show you where the group camping is. You can pay by cash or card. See you all at the weekend.
We have a reservation for 20 but I suspect it will be fine if we go over that. There is space for tin tents in the area we’ve booked too.
Rachael SpraggsParticipantOk any changes or additions now need to be emailed to me, I’ve submitted what I had to the campsite. You can still view the google doc spreadsheet but probably not edit it (if I’ve done it right).
Rachael SpraggsParticipantSome information about prices of lifts and first/last lift times is now available here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XQTCtk-WLDMSfOw3Y3tvpPPoqqAoznMVmFUD6uGN6Go/edit?usp=sharing Thanks to Paul for putting this together. In some cases a multi pass will be better value.
Rachael SpraggsParticipantAlso I’ve been asked if those of you who want electricity will be in the same place or a different part of the campsite. I’ve asked the campsite and this is the response (fairly non-committal, sorry):
“to a certain degree, it may be possible. We have some spots with electricity which are next to some spots without, but most of the Electric spots are all in the same place. We try to keep these spots for people who need Electricity. Obviously, we do our best to help people in whichever way we can, but obviously it will depend on what spots will be available etc. (This is hard to know as we do not take individual reservations in advance.)”
Rachael SpraggsParticipantOk people I have created a google spreadsheet with the information that everyone has given me.
The link is on the facebook page – I don’t want to post it here as it’s an open forum so if you can’t check facebook please email me – rachael.spraggs@googlemail.com and I will send you the link.
There is a “to do” for everyone – please can you double check I have the right dates and information – if there is a box highlighted in yellow I would be grateful if you could provide updated info if possible. The deadline for updates is Sunday 5th June so that the Skye brigade can update. I will then pass on to the campsite. Thanks.
Rachael SpraggsParticipantI have positive news from the campsite – they are going to sort something out for us despite not normally doing bookings and anticipating a busy week for the TdF – yay! This means I need to start getting together a list of people who are coming and what dates AND whether you’ll be in a tent or camper van. Andy has been kindly updating the main meet page so I have the following information so far:
Me and John – 23rd July to 6th August
Simon C – 23rd July to 6th August
Phil and Oli H. – 16th to 30th/31st July
Matt Box – 24th July to 6th August
David K. and Abi -23rd July to 6th August
Alex Shipp – 23rd July to 6th August
Rachel B & James H – 23rd July to 6th AugustIf I’ve put your names together I’m assuming you’re sharing a tent or campervan – please correct me if I’m wrong.
I am assuming that most of these people will be in tents – please can you either email me or post on this forum post to let me know and confirm dates. And for everyone else roll up roll up – when are you coming and how long for and will it be a tin tent or are you roughing it with the rest of us 😉
Rachael SpraggsParticipantI’m sure they’ll do a better job on the Cham guide – most of the UKC/Rockfax team live there!
Rachael SpraggsParticipantBumping this back to the top of the list 🙂
Rachael SpraggsParticipantRichard, for those of us a bit further afield does that work at the other connected centres – i.e. Harrogate?
Thanks
RachRachael SpraggsParticipantThanks both.
OK so I should put some info about the climbing I guess….although I suspect most know all about it.
Chamonix has a bit of everything and there’s always a trip through the tunnel on offer for some Italian sun too. High up rock routes on lovely granite and mountaineering for all abilities. If you fancy a day in the valley then there’s some polished limestone sport climbing to make you feel at home – there’s some other stuff to go at too and it’s all in the various guidebooks on offer. Lots of hiking available with an extensive hut system on offer. I’ve already mentioned the cycling which again is pretty good.
We’ll be in Argentiere so easy access to all areas. Guidebooks – there are loads, most available in English, but Needlesports seem to have the best selection online. Rockfax are going to publish a rock climbing guidebook too – not sure when it comes out but I’m sure it’ll be advertised on UKC. You can buy guidebooks in Cham from the Maison de Presse, it’s on the main street near / opposite Snells.

For those wanting lift access, all information is on the Chamonix website including prices. If you’re planning a ski trip this winter then consider the Chamonix Rapid card – gives you discounts all year round but you have to pay for the card up front – it means if you just go for a 6 day ski trip it’s not quite worth it but if you’re going back in summer you’ll get discounts on any lift passes (Aiguille du midi €32,50 vs €50/58,50 for a return trip. You also get flash offers throughout both seasons and every 7th day free. One thing to note – it’s auto-renews each year so if you do go for it be aware!
http://rapidcard.eliberty.fr/enAnyone wanting to hire kit – you can do this from various places, they hire everything including ice axes, crampons etc – Snells is a good place to start:
