What seems to be dry rot has been identified in the wood pile in the wood shed. Ian and Jean have this week single handedly taken all the wood out, treated it and stacked it in the yard. They have also treated some of the woodshed, with more still to do.

The result is that, currently there is no wood to burn at B-Y-N. Until we have sorted out a plan B, if you are going to the hut and want a fire in the lounge you will need to take your own wood or coal. There is anthracite for the Rayburn in the kitchen (only for the Rayburn please !).

Sorry for any inconvenience, we will update when we know more.

    Hi Paul
Is there much risk of the dry rot spreading into the building? esp. if it’s already been carried in on wood for the fire?

    Hi Andy
We don’t think so, but the plan is to spray the walls of the shed at the work meet and maybe organise the shed. we have some spray especially for wall
. The thought is that the heat of the fire will have killed the fungus before any damage.

Phew. My brother had a ‘leaky’ chimney in his house (in the loft) – it would be a bit grim if the spores got into to the loft at ByN like that

We have ordered coal to burn on the fire and there are extra fire lighters as there is no kindling. So hopefully this will keep people warm till we get this sorted.
