Meet organiser: James Hoyes
This will be a joint meet with the Climber’s Club, based out of their excellent hut in Borrowdale (https://www.climbers-club.co.uk/venues/grange-old-school-grange-borrowdale/). September’s a fantastic time for cragging in Borrowdale, and the CC hut is within walking distance of Shepherds, Black Crag, and many other lower Borrowdale crags. This will be a climbing orientated meet, though not necessarily elite grades! It would be great to see some others with split allegiances there, and likewise it’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in finding out about the CC, or anyone simply keen to go climbing in Borrowdale! Places are limited to 13 beds + camping – so get in touch soon if you’re interested.

HALLOWEEN HUT MEET & FELL RACE
Fri 27th – Sun 29th OCTOBER 2022
DON WHILLAN’S MEMORIAL HUT
So as some of you will remember last year we had out weekend at Don Whillan’s Memorial Hut ruined when the plumbing went down the pipes and we had our booking cancelled at the last minute. Not wanting to pass up on the experience for those that have never stepped within its walls I immediately booked it for this year and started hatching plans.
To make things interesting we’ll be incorporating the Fell Race into the stay which will be taking place on the morning of Sunday 29th. More details will come out nearer the time with a post specific to the Fell Race but to whet your appetite Jen has been busy planning a quality route from the Hut. Likely to be around 13km with a shorter 8km option. Expect spooky check points and plenty of mud!
The plan for the weekend will see our arrival Friday night, a days climbing on the Saturday before a communal meal or trip to the local Sat evening. Sunday will see an opportunity to take part in the Fell race, join the walkers for a loop of the same route or a chilled day at the hut climbing. I’m sure the weather may have a impact on your decision making!
As it’ll be Halloween weekend you are highly encouraged to bring any decorations, clothes or food fitting of the occasion!
The hut isn’t the most of spacious of buildings and as such accommodation is limited to only 12 beds. There is the opportunity to bivvy (The Mynydd have done so in January so you’ll be fine in these autumnal temperatures 😉) and there’s plenty of space for those in tin tents wanting to have a stealth camp.
Although the beds are limited you are all still welcome to come down for the day and join us for any and all of the activities, especially the fell race!!
There’s plenty to go at and it’ll be a great opportunity to seek out those routes a little further afield like up at the Skyline. Even if the weathers not perfect there’s plenty of good walking nearby so they’ll be something for everyone.
As the bed numbers are so limited we’ll be operating a strictly first come (& pay James), first served basis.
At £26 for two nights’ accommodation it’s a bargain for those wanting the experience. The payment is to secure a bed for the full weekend but if you’re only planning on staying the one night then feel free to share the spot with someone else but you’ll have to sort that out between yourselves as It can get messy otherwise.
If you want a place in the hut then please comment below. I’ll also be posting this on the website forum so will try and update numbers as quickly as possible.
If you are planning to join us but not stay in the hut then comment below saying as such. It’ll be good to try and forecast numbers.Meet Organiser: Dan Stone & Jen Ison

As I sit here watching torrential rain pound against the windows, my thoughts turn to the next winter walk…
We’re heading for Dove Stones reservoir from where we will scramble up Birchen Clough, head across the hill (bog) to the Chew reservoir and return via Chew Road and the Oldham Way. Its 11 miles with options for shorter routes.
Meet at the official car park by the Sailing Club (SE 014034) at 10.00 for a 10.30 start. Bring butties and a tenner for drinks at the Clarence afterwards.
Hope to see lots of you there. What’s not to love about being in the local hills with all your mates on an autumn day
Sue
PS. Note that the car park fills up quickly so you should arrive early to guarantee a place. Alternatively you could head for the Binns Green car park (SE 016045) and we’ll pick you up as we walk along the reservoir edge

LOGGING / BONFIRE MEET
Here we go, the most popular meet of the year for your pleasure!
For those of you that haven’t experienced the event before the format is generally…
Saturday Day:
General lumberjack stuff. Moving wood, chopping wood, tidying wood, stacking wood, breaking axes, drinking tea… Preparation of the firework displays and creating a bonfire masterpiece.
Saturday Evening:
We will have a communal meal followed by the infamous firework display and then some kind of bonfire escapades that would make a health and safety office wince from 20 miles away.
Sunday Day:
Is down to your own preference dependant on weather there’s always something going on whether it’s a climb, walk or hunting out a decent café for lunch.
If I can ask for a volunteer to help arrange the communal meal this year please. Steph usually heads things up on this front but her attendance won’t be guaranteed so we’ll need someone to step up organise the meal. There’s always lots of hands willing to help on the day.
This is always a busy meet and space will be limited for bunks (and first come, first served) and around the hut for tin tents. We usually have around 40 people attending so it’s a great meet IF YOU ARE COMING
PLEASE COMMENT ON FB, THE WEBSITE FORUM OR EMAIL ME AT MEETS.MYNYDD@GMAIL.COM
I’LL NEED TO KNOW IF YOUR STAYING IN THE HUT OR IN TENT/VAN AND IF YOU WANT MEAT OR VEG FOR THE COMMUNAL MEAL.
There is usually a modest charge to help cover the cost of communal food and the fireworks. Bring some cash with you for this please but it’s usually about £10. Hut fee’s as usual can be sent to the club account with a reference of “LUMBERJACK your name”. This will enable him to keep tabs on who has paid whilst making the bank statement.
Current Hut fees… £7.00 pppn for members (£4.00 kids) and £14.00 pppn for non-members (£7.00 kids)

I am thrilled to announce, after a four-year gap, the most entertaining and Mynydd like event of the social calendar; the Christmas Bash. For the uninitiated, this is a night of fine dining, excessive drinking and jovial banter. Saturday will be spent enjoying yourselves in the great outdoors. You will then converge in the hut lounge at 18.30, wearing a highly tasteless costume, which you procured in advance from a charity shop. Following a team photo, you will enjoy the most amazing, festive, five course feast and retire to bed late and drunk.
In the morning you will eat leftovers and stagger into Betws-y-Coed in search of indigestion and headache relief tablets. The cost is very reasonable at £20 per head (not including hut fees) and you will need to bring your own wine and beer. Due to space restrictions, there are only 30 places available, which are chosen on a first come first served basis. You must be over 18 to attend.
To make your reservation, either message me via facebook or email (see members area). | will reply with full menu choices and payment details
PS. This is a very popular event and people have been sneakily contacting me since January to ensure their place. So if you want to come (and why wouldn’t you?), I’d book immediately!
