LOGGING / BONFIRE MEET
Here we go, the most popular meet of the year for your pleasure!
For those of you that haven’t experienced the event before the format is generally…
Saturday Day:
General lumberjack stuff. Moving wood, chopping wood, tidying wood, stacking wood, breaking axes, drinking tea… Preparation of the firework displays and creating a bonfire masterpiece.
Saturday Evening:
We will have a communal meal followed by the infamous firework display and then some kind of bonfire escapades that would make a health and safety office wince from 20 miles away.
Sunday Day:
Is down to your own preference dependant on weather there’s always something going on whether it’s a climb, walk or hunting out a decent café for lunch.
If I can ask for a volunteer to help arrange the communal meal this year please. Steph usually heads things up on this front but her attendance won’t be guaranteed so we’ll need someone to step up organise the meal. There’s always lots of hands willing to help on the day.
This is always a busy meet and space will be limited for bunks (and first come, first served) and around the hut for tin tents. We usually have around 40 people attending so it’s a great meet IF YOU ARE COMING
PLEASE COMMENT ON FB, THE WEBSITE FORUM OR EMAIL ME AT MEETS.MYNYDD@GMAIL.COM
I’LL NEED TO KNOW IF YOUR STAYING IN THE HUT OR IN TENT/VAN AND IF YOU WANT MEAT OR VEG FOR THE COMMUNAL MEAL.
There is usually a modest charge to help cover the cost of communal food and the fireworks. Bring some cash with you for this please but it’s usually about £10. Hut fee’s as usual can be sent to the club account with a reference of “LUMBERJACK your name”. This will enable him to keep tabs on who has paid whilst making the bank statement.
Current Hut fees… £7.00 pppn for members (£4.00 kids) and £14.00 pppn for non-members (£7.00 kids)

I am thrilled to announce, after a four-year gap, the most entertaining and Mynydd like event of the social calendar; the Christmas Bash. For the uninitiated, this is a night of fine dining, excessive drinking and jovial banter. Saturday will be spent enjoying yourselves in the great outdoors. You will then converge in the hut lounge at 18.30, wearing a highly tasteless costume, which you procured in advance from a charity shop. Following a team photo, you will enjoy the most amazing, festive, five course feast and retire to bed late and drunk.
In the morning you will eat leftovers and stagger into Betws-y-Coed in search of indigestion and headache relief tablets. The cost is very reasonable at £20 per head (not including hut fees) and you will need to bring your own wine and beer. Due to space restrictions, there are only 30 places available, which are chosen on a first come first served basis. You must be over 18 to attend.
To make your reservation, either message me via facebook or email (see members area). | will reply with full menu choices and payment details
PS. This is a very popular event and people have been sneakily contacting me since January to ensure their place. So if you want to come (and why wouldn’t you?), I’d book immediately!

An ancient Mynydd tradition – drink mulled wine, eat mince pies and see how far you need to climb up the crag before your eyebrows stop getting singed by the fire pit. Festive fun for all the family!
New year, new me!! We’ll be heading out again into them there hills to kick start your New Years resolutions and burn off all that Christmas pudding. Full details of the walk to follow.

For those of you who suffer post-Christmas blues we have organized an exciting weekend in the Rucksack club’s High Moss Hut in the Duddon Valley, located at the foot of Walna Scar.
There is excellent walking around the hut, which is on the doorstep of the Coniston Fells and the well-reviewed Newfield Inn is within walking distance.
The accommodation consists of 5 bedrooms with a total of 24 beds. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed.
Further details on the hut can be found on the Rucksack Clubs’ website:

I am hoping to organize a communal meal for the Saturday night so please let me know if you’d like to be involved.
To book a bed just pay £20.00 into the club account and let me and James (Treasurer) know when you’ve paid (contact details available in the members area).

Glencoe is the home of Winter Climbing in Scotland, where local legend Hamish Macinnes invented the first technical ice axe, the “Terrordactyl”, so called as rumour has it he would wave it at terrified visiting mountain bikers who believed it to be an acceptable winter activity. Anyway, I digress
In Glencoe you will find classic mountaineering objectives like Curved Ridge or the epic Aonach Eagach, multiple Munro summits or classic hard mixed test pieces like Central Grooves, Unicorn, and the Clachaig Table Traverse. Of course if conditions are fickle the more reliable venues of Ben Nevis and Aonoch Mor are only a short drive away, as are the lower lying ice climbs of Beinn Udlaid if we are blessed with a cold snap We will be staying in the newly refurbished Heart of Glencoe Hostel (formerly the Glencoe Independent Hostel, now under new ownership), where we have 16 beds in the bunkhouse and an additional 8 split between two caravans. Each caravan has a double room and a twin so let me know if you specifically want to book the double room or a single in one of the caravans. Otherwise you will be allocated a spot in the bunkhouse.
The cost is £150 per person payable to the usual account, using the payment reference GLENCOE. Please contact me when you book on and with any room requests.
