This is sad news.
I did my first ever climb (winter or summer) with Paul on a Mynydd winter meet in Feb ’84 – South Post on Meagaidh. He hadn’t believed me that I was entirely inexperienced, until I asked him how to tie in at the bottom….
He also belayed me on my first ever lead – Calvi Corner in Cheedale, a few months later.
I’ll be going along.In case anyone is thinking of a late decision to go, the campsite has been changed. It’s now the Llyn Gwynant campsite a few miles NE of Beddgelert. Details in FB page. Meet leader will has been in contact with everyone who has said they planned to come.

The roads have re-opened and access is now open to Roaches upper and lower tier. Looks like its still closed to Skyline and beyond towards Roach end and the moorland over the back of the Roaches. Hen Cloud open.
Dont see any reason not to continue with the meet at Ramshaw tomorrow evening, Ramshaw has been unaffected by the fire related closures.Forgot to add – parking:
There is a resonable sized free public carpark 50 yards the hill from the Norfolk Arms towards Stockport, just above the Midland Hotel. There are also public car parks slightly further up the hill behind the Purple Pakora and opposite in the train station.
There are over 80,000 BMC members eligible to vote at the AGM. At the last BMC AGM there were, on average, about 500 votes per resolution.
Based on these numbers it is very possible that an active minority could get a resolution passed that would be widely opposed by the majority who just want to go climbing and don’t pay much attention to this sort of thing.The ‘no confidence vote’, if passed, would mean the executive committee of volunteers who run the BMC and the CEO would be obliged to stand down, creating a vacuum at the top of the organisation for a considerable time.
In case you didn’t notice, the recent copy of summit magazine also contained voting forms and a report on the ‘issues’ from our own Martin Wragg. If you don’t have Summit, or ditched the ‘junk mail’ included in the envelope (that included the voting forms and Martin’s report), you can download a form at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/bmc-agm-2017. Martins report can also be read/downloaded via a link in the ‘what’s the issue’ article in the AGM part of the BMC website.
There is also extensive discussion on the various UKC, UKB forums and BMC Facebook page (and probably other places) if you want non-BMC perspective and access to Bob Pettigrew’s written argument.Due to the potential impact on the BMC, it would make sense if a significant percentage of members voted on this, rather than the 0.6% of membership who typically vote on AGM motions

Sharing some background:
The group booking for Easter was taken as a result of a breakdown associated with the Google on-line calendar. The group contacted the club late January and asked generally about the hut availablility. They were told that the on line calendar was up to date. Unfortunately, at that point Easter had not been blocked on the calendar for members only, an oversight. They ‘booked’ for Easter and when told subsequently that we dont take bookings for Easter, explained that they had already made significant arrangements based on information they had received from the club. We therefore decided (in early February) to accept the booking for two bedrooms. This should have been clearly communicated immediately to club members, an oversight for which I unreservedly apologise.
The Easter booking ‘issue’ was discussed at the next committee meeting which was on Monday this week. This led to a further discussion on the hut booking policy at Bank Holidays and the view that, when we had a meet elsewhere, we should accept bookings on other Bank Holiday weekends for two bedrooms (keeping the members room and one bedroom for members only). This was on the basis that the hut is lightly used at Bank Holidays, the feedback on Easter use last year and this is noted.
No other bookings have been taken for other Bank Holiday weekends in 2016, though we have interest from a large group for the early May Bank Holiday.
We took external group bookings for both the May Bank Holiday weekends in 2015, with a note in the December 2014 newsletter about the intention to do so for the late May Bank Holiday.
I hope the background is useful, and again profound apologies for the late information on the Easter booking.

Andy is one of the U.K.’s top Alpinists with a list of fast, lightweight ascents of big and hard routes in Peru, Alaska, Nepal as well the Alps. In 2010, along with Nick Bullock, he was nominated for the Piolet D’Or for their first ascent of the North Face of Chang Himal in Nepal. Other major climbs include the first British ascent (also with Nick Bullock) of the Slovak direct on the south face of Denali and winter ascents of the Eiger, Matterhorn and Jorasse north faces. All this whilst also working for the family haulage business in Yorkshire.
It should be a highly entertaining and inspiring evening – don’t miss it !
I also cant get to the meets forum but have a couple of suggestions:
1. The return of the May camping weekend in the Lakes. Maybe Buttermere or Eskdale ? ….or Wasdale or Langdale or….arghh! Too many choices but would be happy to volunteer to lead it.
2. 2nd/3rd Clouds at the Roaches for an evening meet – had a great day pottering around all 5 on Sunday at the Western Edges challenge.For alps the last two summers have been quite rock orientated so maybe time for somewhere to also suit the cramponed brigade ?

If people are keen to get out tomorrow, with the forecast its maybe better to switch to somewhere more local and quick drying.

Seems to very very little interest in Almscliffe for tomorrow. With the weather forecast indifferent at best, it looks like the meet will not happen.
