Richard WalthamParticipant
Hi Andy,
Most email servers will deliver an email through to your inbox if it finds the originator address in your contacts. Andrew M does a nice line in pictorial tutorials which assist others (like me) with how to do this (he’s particular ‘hot’ on Whatsapp) but I’m not that clever!I guess it does make sense that the Comms. Officer might have overlooked adding the comms.mynydd@gmail.com address in his contacts though? Else the problem is deeper?
Richard WalthamParticipantOK, I give in! Tomorrow (Saturday) is set to be a wash-out. Particularly in Lancashire!
I’m not even going to suggest that we just postpone (to Sunday) as, despite some variation in forecasts, Sunday will still be a little wet (and anyway the pond in Troy quarry might make reaching the cliffs an aquatic adventure. I’ll leave it to the facebook chatter to identify (along with likely protagonists) either a climbing wall or some other opportunistic venue. Sorry everybody.
Richard WalthamParticipantSaturday’s weather really isn’t looking great (meaning, like, half-an-inch of rain!) – I’ll post again around midday tomorrow with a final decision (which might include the option of a postponement to Sunday but Dan tried this tactic a couple of weeks back and I’m not sure it helped much!)

Richard WalthamParticipantBowness Knott, sneaky car-trip up the foresty track (ever locked?), dump sacks, draw short straws for who drives back, parks and cycles back in (unencumbered with load).
“Letting the Va<strike>i</strike>n take the Strain”!
Richard
P.S. As I compile this it looks like somebody has removed my Html privileges. I’m not to be trusted, obviously!
Richard WalthamParticipantMike,
James and I should see you there. We’re not walking in until Saturday morning. Try to save us a lakeside spot for a bivvy tent (or at least remind me what colour your tent/tarp/bag is)!
Richard WalthamParticipantI’ll keep my eyes open for more on this (and Tim “Orkney Cheese” will know of course) but here’s a taster of why going to Shetland makes more sense than before: Shetland News: Cheaper ferry fares
Richard WalthamParticipantHi Graham,
I’ve just sent you an email with the latest update on availability following some recent interest. We’ll definitely work something out.
RichardRichard WalthamParticipantIt would be appropriate to declare that there has been some attrition in enthusiasm, chiefly attributable to the precipitation, and the wind is a little stiff, and….
So, perhaps not then?
Richard WalthamParticipantCould we have one of these (extra webpages) for Lundy as well please? There’ll be a few bits of information for which a central store will be handy (e.g. Boat timetable).
For those reading and perhaps interested, there 4 beds still available.
Richard
Richard WalthamParticipantYes, sorry, I did mean Thursday 9th (not 11th – I was obviously too busy “remember, remembering?”)
Richard WalthamParticipantHi Debbie,
There were 5 beds unpaid for mid-week but I know other last-minute types are interested as well. Just get £20 (each) sent to the Club’s Account to secure your place(s).
Cheers
Richard
P.S. I don’t think even Catherine looks at this forum any more and she’s the Webmaster ;-(Richard WalthamParticipant3c, 4c, whichever. In modern-day parlance – “It’s Nails”. I haven’t failed at this grade for quite a while but having bridged and smeared on wet shiny slimestone, perched above the back-breaking-potential chockstone with the prospect of very wet holds quite some distance higher, I decided to back off. The gratitude (or actually sighs of relief) from Dick, Jules and Tom were audible!
We salvaged an interesting foray on windy ledge and the passageway which winds its anfractuous route behind Aurora Arete before declining the Tiger Trot return leg in favour of more crawling whereas Tom adopted to role of ‘control group’ and seemed to prove that crawling is not the quickest way back to rucksacks.
The Moon has some nice new (but retro) tables and was serving pleasant beer as well.
I can’t understand why more of you don’t make the effort 😉
Richard WalthamParticipantDick says he’s coming too (maybe, if we twist his arm, etc. etc.).
Add ‘Kevlar trousers’ to the ‘Don’t forget’ list – traversing the top of the crag these days is fairly brambly. If we don’t fancy the Mineshaft descent (including the obligatory and legendary Tom’s Roof) we might walk further along (more brambles) to the Aurora descent and then crawl through the cave-passage that emerges back onto Windy Ledge.
Or we could even do ‘Tiger Trot’ if you really want intrepid. This use to be ungraded solo but again the new book gives has upgraded it to VD. Another misprint, probably?
Richard WalthamParticipantThe latest guidebook from the BMC suggests Fingal’s Flue is “a classic of its genre, very entertaining”. I was a little alarmed to see that it now gets VS whereas the first guidebook I had to Stoney Middleton gave it VD. It must just be a misprint. What start(time) for kicking off?
I’ll speak with Dick and post again with a proposal but around 7pm probably.

Richard WalthamParticipantSo how would you ever see the ‘Moon Illusion’ (as it rises over the horizon) without its angle being low?. Surely it’ll have to be an Illusion illumination sacrifice? That sounds a bit pagan – perhaps we’ll get naked and plant beetroots as well?
Tom, there’s nothing too intrepid on Cave Dale option, but despite it allegedly being a “dry” valley, it did feel a bit like walking down a river in the dark last time, and certainly quite slippery underfoot but Jon F knew a good route to avoid the boggy quagmire to get into the top of the gorge having first ascended Mam Tor.
Anyway, as I’ve had two people (yes TWO) challenge me on the (lack of) merits of Glossop wall, I’m going to stand down anyway on championing the 14th for FMT and allow people to savour its delights. I believe this leaves Fingal’s Flue as runaway favourite for this Tuesday (7th March).
